I remember sophomore year of high school, I said that I was going to learn French and get a PhD in physics so I could go work at CERN.
High school students really have no idea what they’re good at or what they should be doing.
In my house, we speak this mixture of 45% Urdu, 45% Hindi, 10% Marathi. The downside is that both Pakistanis and inland Indians think I sound really dumb.
A deal with the Devil, a lost spring break
On Sunday I asked
"Why must I study so hard for classes that mean so little to me?"
and on Monday morning I fell sick. Too sick to go to my first final. I went to my doctor, and he wrote a note excusing me from school for a few days. I skipped all of my finals.
The one I actually gave up on
I always support people who go against the academic system to pursue their dreams. PTE numbers are your best friends! To hell with requirements!
But it didn’t work for me this time. I wormed my way into (what I didn’t know at the time was) a fairly difficult upper division EE weeder course. There were a bunch of unenforced requirements I didn’t meet, and the course just battered me throughout the quarter.
So when the professor asked me to choose between taking a harder final or taking an Incomplete in the course, I chose to take an Incomplete in the class. I gave up.
The others still haunt me
None of my professors were able to set up firm times for make-up finals. I was stuck in the chain of correspondence, just sending emails for a few days. I realized that I might have to take my remaining finals during spring break. There was so much I was supposed to this spring break
A lesson learned
My dad told me that time lost to sickness is time lost. If you can’t focus on what you’re doing, then you won’t feel productive. So, I accepted that I had just lost time, and that’s ok. I’m getting better. I didn’t outright fail any classes. Life is pretty good.
I look at pictures like this and think, “Man, the world would have been so different if the Himalayas didn’t exist.”
I had my first energy drink today.
I find it much easier to study the humanities when the courses are tied with history.
- Art + History
- English + History
" Don’t let school interfere with your education "
Dennis just thawed a whole chicken by mistake and he’s like “Oh god, what have I done?”
We would sometimes play a historic real time strategy game called Age of Empires.
Toward the end of a particularly long game, my friend Kevin, playing as the Japanese, remained as one of the few remaining forces against the onslaught of Teutonic knights.
Just as Kevin’s last base was about to fall, he declared “MY SAMURAI WILL COMMIT SUDOKU!" as his forces committed suicide one-by-one.
HE LITERALLY PAINTS IT IN THREE DIMENSIONS
IF YOU GUYS SAW MY FACE RIGHT NOW
Holy shit, I want one of those. He can have all my money.
Thats an amazing use of modern materials. And must have been quite painstaking to master.
